While celebrities are more and more prevalent in the modern media, I feel a stronger connection to Canadian musicians and their music. Their music speaks to the environment I grew up in, their experiences are my experiences and I connect deeply with the locations and themes throughout their music. This past Canada Day I had the glorious opportunity to see Metric on stage on Parliament Hill. The number of fellow Canadians braving the rain and sticking it out through the commercial breaks to connect not only with the music, the band and each other but also those across the country watching the broadcast at home was inspiring. I hope we continue to foster Canadian musicians, like Metric, who are true to their roots.
